Welcome to our ECR Hub!

This space is dedicated to our Early Career Researchers events from all disciplines — a place to connect, learn, and grow together.

We offer a mix of workshops, seminars, networking opportunities, and informal catch-ups — all tailored to the needs and interests of ECRs.

Keep an eye on this page for updates, and feel free to get in touch if you have ideas or would like to get involved.

Below are some highlights and testimonials from our previous events:

Clean Air Programme Media Training – Impact Overview

As part of our commitment to supporting early career researchers, the Clean Air Programme has proudly delivered media training sessions over the past three years. These sessions are designed to build confidence, develop practical skills, and empower researchers to communicate their work effectively with both the public and the media.

We’ve trained over 45 researchers from across the Clean Air community and have been fortunate to welcome guest speakers including Damien Carrington (The Guardian) and Marnie Chesterton (BBC), who have shared their expertise and insights on science communication and engaging with the media.

We’re proud of the enthusiasm and talent shown by all our participants — and we look forward to continuing to provide this support as part of our ongoing commitment to clean air science and communication.

The Baverstock Bursary Travel Scheme

The Baverstock Bursary is a dedicated travel scheme designed to support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) working in the field of air quality. With funding of up to £300 per award and a total annual bursary pool of £3,000, the scheme helps cover travel and/or subsistence costs for ECRs who want to attend conferences, events, or arrange short visits to other institutions.
Whether it’s gaining new insights at an international symposium or collaborating across disciplines with a partner organisation, the bursary empowers ECRs to develop the skills needed for impactful interdisciplinary work.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be UK-based Early Career Researchers (typically PhD students or postdoctoral researchers).
Have research experience or a strong interest in air quality and the goals of the Clean Air Champion programme.
Be willing to share their experience through a short report or blog post (with a photo!) for our website.
If your background doesn’t exactly match the definition of an ECR but you’re actively engaged in relevant research, we still encourage you to apply—just include a bit more detail about your role.

Why Apply?
This is a great opportunity to:
Broaden your professional network
Gain exposure to new ideas and practices
Contribute to the wider clean air research community
