CHEPA is a free, easy-to-use calculator that enables schools and local authorities to explore whether adding a HEPA filter unit could improve classroom air quality and what the implications might be for energy use. Ventilation remains the primary approach to refreshing indoor air. CHEPA offers a way to assess whether adding a HEPA filter unit could provide a valuable addition to the ventilation provision.

Developed by researchers at Imperial College London and the Stockholm Environment Institute at the University of York, in collaboration with schools, and other prospective users, CHEPA is independent and grounded in peer-reviewed science and trusted UK datasets. The tool uses simple, observation-based inputs for a specific classroom and produces a clear, shareable comparison of results with and without a filter.
