The BreatHE IN Network has opened its first call supporting feasibility study funding and is inviting researchers, practitioners, industry partners and community stakeholders to take part in an upcoming collaborative sandpit event focused on Diagnosis and Monitoring of Indoor Environments.

This event marks the first step in applying for feasibility study funding and aims to bring together diverse expertise to develop early-stage ideas, foster new collaborations and shape innovative research projects.

Event Details

Location: University of Birmingham
Date: 29 April 2026
Time: 10:00 to 16:00

The in-person sandpit will provide a structured environment for participants to explore shared challenges in indoor environmental monitoring, exchange perspectives and build partnerships that can lead to funded feasibility studies.

Funding Opportunity

Following the sandpit, participants will be invited to apply for BreatHE IN feasibility study funding. The programme will support 2 to 4 projects, each funded up to £72,000 Full Economic Cost (FEC), running for a period of six months.

Attendance at the sandpit and submission of a short Expression of Interest are required steps before submitting a full funding application.

Why Participate?

  • Develop and test early-stage research ideas
  • Gain insight into current research and innovation priorities
  • Connect with potential collaborators across academia, industry and practice
  • Strengthen proposals for feasibility study funding

Participants will deliver brief three-minute introductions outlining their research interests and expertise during a concept-sharing session designed to stimulate discussion and collaboration.

Eligibility

Project Leads applying for funding must meet UKRI eligibility criteria, including:

  • Being based at a UK research institution
  • Holding a contract extending beyond the proposed study period

Early Career Researchers are strongly encouraged to participate. Collaborations with industry, policy organisations and non-academic partners are particularly welcomed.

PhD students are not eligible to apply as Project Leads but may participate as part of a team supported by an eligible Principal Investigator.

Travel bursaries are available to support Early Career Researchers attending the event.
