London-based startup Air Aware Labs has added a new ‘Cleaner Routes’ feature to its AirTrack app. The feature uses real-time air quality data to provide personalised route suggestions, helping users reduce their exposure to air pollution when walking, cycling, or running.
Supporting Healthier Daily Movement
Air pollution contributes to over 8 million deaths globally each year, yet most people have limited tools to understand their personal exposure. The ‘Cleaner Routes’ feature identifies paths with lower pollution levels, giving users insights into cleaner routes, optimal times to be outdoors, and personal exposure tracking.
Usage and Integration
AirTrack now serves over 2,200 users in more than 100 countries, recording over 200,000 activities. The app integrates with platforms like Strava, Apple Health, and Google Health Connect. One user commented:
“The visual maps make it easy to see which routes have cleaner air and adjust my running routes accordingly.”

“It’s encouraging to see users make small changes to their daily routines that can improve their exposure to air pollution and support better overall health.”
